Clinico-radiological and histopathological study of ovarian masses at a tertiary care centre

Background: Counselling and rapid referral to a specialised facility might be improved with the use of scoring system that could diagnose ovarian cancer. The relative simplicity Risk Malignancy Index (RMI) technique ease which it may applied make strong candidate as primary diagnostic tool for individuals pelvic masses. Methods: Prospective observations study conducted on women diagnosed mass by clinical examination confirmed ultrasonography, undergoing surgery at RL Jalappa Hospital, Kolar from January 2021 December 2022. Histopathological report was considered Primary outcome parameter. Age group, Parity, Menstrual history, Index, etc., were explanatory parameters. Results: A total 40 subjects are included among 22.50% aged ≤40 years 77.50% >40 years. Using cut off 25, majority (88.2%) those malignancy had RMI≥25 in benign histopathology 56.5% ≥25 RMI. Histopathology report, there statistically significant (p<0.05) difference RMI values. sensitivity 88.24% predicting specificity 43.48%, positive predictive value 53.57%, negative 83.33% accuracy 62.50%. Conclusions: Results correlate positively. results this research show is reliable practicable method assessing patients masses commencement therapy identifying who good candidates centralised surgical treatment.
